TEACHING ARTIST

Life is art. I believe everyone is creative and strive to support children and adults to explore their innate creativity. Everyone learns differently and art is a great tool for translating our unique experiences.

I use art as a healing modality to help children and adults actualize and empower themselves through Expressive Arts (visual mediums: drawing, coloring, collage, creative writing, mixed media, painting) and dance. Socio-emotional learning (SEL) within my Feeling Art classes are a healing salve when applied through the arts. Children and adults thrive when given tools to express themselves freely. They become creative explorers opening up possibility.

I consider myself both a student and a teacher, incorporating a beginner’s mind to new experiences, which help me stay open to learning and curious for possibilities. Play is a great tool for this, and I infuse it every chance I get, keeping art as a fun problem-solving adventure and experimentation.

Kids Expressive Art Classes (1 hour)

Grades: K-5

In these classes, we use color and crafts to explore feelings and give children a creative outlet to express them. Some of our projects: I Love Me! (Hand Map), Animal Mosaic Art, Bottled Up! Feeling Mandalas (magazine collage), Feeling Monsters, Under the Sea/In the Garden, Gratitude Tree, Watercolor Seasons, etc. Using a variety of colorful mediums (crayon, color pencil, markers, oil pastel, watercolor painting, magazine and colored paper cutouts, glue sticks, etc.). Teaching Artist will use prompts and class participation to channel emotions into beautiful works of art.

Feeling Mandala Workshop (2-3 hours)

All ages: K-12 and Adults

In this workshop we will be creating feeling mandalas using color and imagery to express emotions. Teaching Artist will use prompts and class participation to channel emotions onto circular paper rounds using craft paper, magazine cutouts, markers, oil pastels, color pencils, crayons, glue sticks and other mixed media. We each have unique expressions with different learning modalities. Art is a great tool for translating this. I look forward to giving and sharing creative tools to explore color to express feelings.
